TINUBU Support Group (TSG), an advocacy group has appealed to youths in Nasarawa State to shun the planned nationwide protest and embrace dialogue.

Mr Stephen Nidan, Convener of the group,  made the call at a rally in Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State on Wednesday.

Some inscriptions on some of the placards read “Tinubu Support Group say no to protest, “Let’s Trust President Tinubu’s leadership and “Work To Achieve Greatness among others.

According to Nidan , the event is an advocacy rally aimed at sensitising the public, especially youths to  the dangers attached to protests.

He said that it was also a call on the organisers of the proposed protest to shun it, and seek other ways of engaging government.

“The constitution grants Nigerians the right to protest but there are other ways to protest which is through dialogue.

“I believe that through constructive dialogue, we can sit with the government, discuss and find common grounds on some policies  not favourable to Nigerians,” he said.

Nidan who pointed out that though the protesters have promised to be peaceful, warned that there was no guarantee that the protests won’t get  out of control.

He said that protest in Nigeria has never ended well for the citizens of the country hence the appeal to avoid it.

Mr Victor Akawu, a member of the group also appealed to residents of the state not to participate in the protest, in order to avoid breakdown of law and order.

“For the next few days, members of this group will sacrifice their time and stay on the streets, advocating for dialogue, sensitising the general public, especially youths on the dangers of protests.

“We are here to create awareness, to educate the public, especially the youths.

”We know there is abject hunger in Nigeria at the moment, but holding protest is not the solution to our challenges,” he added.

He called on youths in the state to support the administration of President Bola Tinubu and Gov. Abdullahi Sule, for youth-friendly policies being implemented by both leaders.

Also speaking, Hajiya Jummai Baba, a member of the group also called for dialogue.

According to her, women were against any protest as they are the ones who are affected the most once the protest does not go as planned.

“When our sons and daughters are attacked or killed, we are the worst hit. That is why we are out in our numbers kicking against this protest,”he said.

She added that the horrifying memories of the ENDSARS protests was still fresh in the minds of many parents, especially mothers, hence the need to shun the protest. (NAN)
