A 25-year old man, Elisha Danjuma on Thursday, appeared at a Kado Grade 1 Area Court in Abuja, charged with screening an offender, whom he stood for as a guarantor.

Danjuma, who resides at Agwan Beri-Beri, Abuja, is being prosecuted by police for allegedly refusing to produce his friend, Josiah Udah, whom he stood as a guarantor to get a job as security personnel.

The Prosecutor, Ferdinand Orji, said that the complainant, Waziri Ulama of Damunde Estate, Life Camp, Abuja reported the matter to the police on Aug.19.

According to Orji, the complainant informed the police that on Aug. 18, he discovered that he could not find his phone for some time and he later found it on his door step.

The prosecutor, in addition, said that after the complainant found the phone he discovered that the sum of N110,000 had been transferred from his account through the phone.

Orji further alleged that Udah was the only person in the house when the incident happened and he afterwards disappeared to an unknown destination.

He said during police investigation, every effort made for the defendant to produce his friend, whom he brought to work for the complainant and also as a guarantor, proved abortive.

The prosecutor said that the offence allegedly committed contravened the provisions of section 167 of the penal code.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the offence.

The judge, Mohammed Wakili, admitted the defendant to a bail of N100,000 and a reliable surety in like sum.

Wakili thereafter adjourned the matter until Oct. 6, for hearing (NAN)
