LAGOS State Government has implored all the Community Development Associations, CDAS, and other stakeholders to ensure they take ownership of all infrastructure provided by government for various Communities statewide.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Communities and Communications, Kehinde Bamigbetan, made this appeal today during the monthly interactive meeting organised by the Ministry of Local Government and Community Affairs for the Community Development Committees, CDCs, and Neighbourhood Watch security outfit and other stakeholders at the Adeyemi Bero Auditorioum, Alausa, Ikeja.
According to Bamigbetan, “the present administration is determined to ensure that it makes life more meaningful for all the residents in the State by providing infrastructural amenities which we are all witnessing today in the State. Lagos State Government cannot move forward without the CDAs.”
He urged the CDAs to work together to build strong, prosperous and committed communities that would form the bed rock of development in the State.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Public Health, Femi Onanuga, at the forum said the primary health care policy in the State is formulated to take care of the people at the grassroot level in order to reduce pressure on all the General Hospitals.
He reiterated that the present administration will not relent in ensuring that it strengthens the Primary Health Care Centres (PHCs) by providing all the basic amenities including personnel and assured that “PHCs will cater for health needs of residents and reduce the incidences of maternal mortality.”
Onanuga confirmed that Governor Akinwunmi Ambode has committed public funds to uplift medical infrastructure, so as to ensure first class health services are delivered to the people; he charged all community leaders to ensure they monitor all the PHCs and other medical infrastructure within their various communities.
Okanlawon Olowu, director, Light-Up Lagos Project, noted that Governor Ambode’s administration believes that economic life and transactions in Lagos has gone beyond limitation of daylight and as such, the night component should be fully incorporated.
He expressed confidence that once investors are assured of a safe and secure operating environment, more investment would be guaranteed, adding that with the light-up project, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources has commissioned the community electrification project, connecting 68 communities in Ibeju-Lekki/Odeomi and environs to the National grid.
Olowu noted that 365 Streets were also lit up across the State, which includes: Ogudu Road; Maidan-Agiliti Road; Ajelogo Market Street; Agboyi/Kola Iyamore Street; Brook Estate, CMD Road, Magodo; Hassan Street and Adebanwo Street all within Kosofe Local Government Area.
Others are Karounwi Street, Ikorodu; Awolowo I and II Roads, Ikorodu, Ring Road, Imota; Mobolaji Bank Anthony Road; Iju Road; Victoria Island; Ikoyi; Eko Bridge, Lagos Island; Third Mainland Bridge; Oba Ogunji Road, Capitol Road, Agege; Murtala Mohammed Way, Yaba etc.
He also implored Lagosians to take custody of all the amenities, especially the electrification projects provided by Lagos State Government.
“You have authority to challenge anybody working on the street lamp poles so as to verify if the person is permitted to carry out any operation whatsoever with the light-up Lagos project,” he said.
