Guber/House of Assembly Election: CLO decried unprecedented apathy, transactional politics
Politics
CIVI Liberties Organization has decried with great disdain despicable voter apathy, vote buying, ballot box snatching, violence and intimidation that characterized the governorship and House of Assembly elections.
It is very unfortunate and detestable that high voters turnout during the presidential and National Assembly elections was not recorded during governorship and House of Assembly elections as majority of the electorate has lost trust, confidence and faith in the electoral umpire has they believed that their votes has not and it will never count.
INEC should redeem itself and the electoral system by ensuring sanctity and sacredness of the ballot box.
This is contained in a post election world press conference endorsed by Evangelist Comrades Vincent Ezekwueme and Chidi Mba chairman and secretary respectively themed “justice could only be served until unaffected are as outraged as those affected.
We condemned in strong term monetization and commercialization of our electoral system in which victory goes to the highest bidder to the detriment of the masses.Transactional politics is a great threat to democracy, good governance and socioeconomic development.
The true heroes of our democracy are the electorate and INEC officials that rejects monetary inducements and stands for what is right, fair, just and laudable.
The task to transform and rescue our country should be collective and collaborative efforts of all stakeholders.
We equally berated politicians that deployed hoodlums to destroy and disrupt elections and snatch ballot boxes in their opponents stronghold.
Such people should be banned 10years from contesting election or holding public offices.
We equally appeal to INEC to use governorship and House of Assembly election to restore people’s confidence as well as redeem her image that is at stake CLO posited.
We commend patriotism and humanitarian disposition of Labour Party House of Assembly candidate for Onitsha South 2 Barr. Jude Umennajiego who rushed to hospital a pregnant voter Mrs Ngozi Nwaoha who was wounded when the hoodlum came to snatch ballot box at Odoakpu.
