MR Ali Janga, Deputy Inspector-General (DIG) in charge of Research and Planning, Force Headquarters has charged policemen to be professional and vigilant in ensuring effective policing in the upcoming state election.
He stated this in Gombe on Wednesday while delivering a lecture at the Police Command on the role of Police on Election Day.
Janga, who is also the DIG on election duty in the North-East, said other security outfits had been deployed to complement the police.
“I, therefore, urge you not to rely on them, instead take charge at the various places you are posted to.
“As the leading security agency, we are expected to provide an enabling environment for voters, local and international observes as well as those that were genuinely accredited for election duty,” he said.
The DIG also warned the police personnel not to compromise and connive with politicians and election officers to manipulate the result in favor of anyone.
“I urge you not to compromise, you are expected to do the right thing.
“Ensure that after counting the results at the polling unit, you accompany the presiding officers to the Collation Centre,” he said.
He commended the police for the wonderful job they did during the Feb. 25 Presidential and National Assembly elections.
“The Inspector General of Police appreciates the officers and men of the Nigeria police for putting in your best in the last election and much is expected of you this coming elections,” he said. (NAN)
