DINO Melaye, a senator who is representing Kogi West, was allegedly under attack by some unknown gunmen in Lokoja, the state capital, today, Monday, June 12. According to Tribune Online, the senator was attacked in front of the Kogi State polytechnic.

It was reported that Melaye had stopped in front of the institution to address his supporters due to the current political crisis surrounding a planned recall to remove his senator. There no report that the senator himself was hurt.

According to report, the gunmen emerged from the NATACO end of the road and started shooting, which reportedly led to the death of about three persons. The attack was said to have lasted for 30 minutes resulting in serious traffic along Lokoja-Abuja highway.

In recent times, Melaye has in a series of tweets, accused Governor Yahaya Bello of sponsoring his recall plans. The tweets read: “Yahaya Bello: on recall of Dino Melaye, he is shooting the moon and boxing the air. “Spending over one billion naira tax payers money on an unproductive venture when salaries and pensions have not been paid is wicked. “I will continue to defend the poor and defenceless masses of kogi State.”
