HELEN Ocheke, a gymnast and coach with Body Language Gymnastics club, says getting back to fitness has been a challenge following the halt in sporting activities due to COVID-19.

Ocheke, who led the female gymnastics team to win a bronze at the 12th Africa Games in Morocco last year, said she is doing everything possible to get back to shape.

“During the lock down, I stopped training. I was just engaging in personal exercises but it was not intense,’’ Ocheke told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Abuja.

“It’s difficult getting back to shape. Without exercising for such a long time and coming back to training will expose your body to a lot of aches.

“Our gymnasts in the club have resumed training, but it’s also a lot of work for us as coaches, because the gymnasts are also out of shape.

“Thank God, we have resumed activities, and hopefully we will get better and be ready for forthcoming competitions.’’
