Handball: Ekiti girls team defeat Osun 10 – 6 in friendly, lose 16 – 25 in boys category

THE Ekiti Girls Handball team on Friday in a friendly defeated their visitors from Osun State with 10 goals to six.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Under-15 friendly match was played at the Oluyemi Kayode Stadium, Ado-Ekiti.
However, in the Boys category, the Osun State team defeated their hosts by 25 goals to 16.
Commenting on the match, the Ekiti Club’s General Manager, Chief Ayodeji Samo, said the matches were part of the state’s efforts at developing grassroots sporting activities.
“Now that embargo has been lifted on sporting activities, the friendly match between our team and Osun State is a welcome development.
“With these matches, we can learn from our mistakes and improve in other areas where needed,” Samo said.
Also, the Head Coach of Ekiti team, Mr Idowu Kayode, expressed satisfaction with the matches.
He said, “This friendly with our visitors from Osun State is to prepare us for the Youths Games coming up later in the year.”
Similarly, the Head Coach of the Osun State, Esan Oluwasan, commended his teams for their brilliant performance.
“My team’s performance is encouraging, not minding that we lost to the Ekiti team in the Girls category.
“We promised our host that during the return leg we will show them Handball,” Oluwasan boasted.
Nike Falowo, the Ekiti Girls team captain and the Osun State team captain, Tolu Adejuwon, hailed the organisers and the players for their spirits of sportsmanship.
NAN reports that there were handful of spectators to cheer up the teams.
