DR Kazeem Abubakar, an expert at the National Centre for Technology Management (NACETEM), says Nigerian engineers can leverage internal strength in the face of inflation and financial challenges to generate more income.

Abubakar expressed this view in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja on Thursday in Abuja.

He said Nigerian engineers could expand their dynamic capabilities to generate more income.

According to him, engineers should enhance their skills and diversify.

He said they could do so by staying updated with the latest technological advancements and industry trends.

“They can take courses, attend workshops and obtain certifications in emerging fields like artificial intelligence, machine learning and renewable energy among others.’’

Abubakar urged engineers to diversify their expertise by exploring new areas within engineering.

“For instance, a civil engineer might gain knowledge in environmental engineering; or an electrical engineer might delve into software development.”

He also offered tip on entrepreneurship and innovation.

“They can also start a side business; leverage engineering skills to start a consulting firm, design firm, or a tech startup.

“They should identify gaps in the market where their skills can provide unique solutions,” he said.

Abubakar also listed innovative solutions, where engineers could focus on creating innovative products or services that address specific needs in the community.

He said it entailed developing low-cost engineering solutions for local problems.

Abubakar said networking and collaboration offered opportunity where they could join engineering associations, attend industry conferences, and participate in local meet-ups to expand your professional network.

“Collaborating with others can lead to new opportunities, securing access to bottleneck resources and projects.”

He said engineers should also try freelancing and remote work by exploring platforms to find engineering gigs that could be done remotely.

“They should explore remote job opportunities with international firms, ” Abubakar said. (NAN)
