Headfort Foundation for Justice marked the 2024 Children’s Day at the Special Correctional Centre for Boys at Oregun, Lagos.

The foundation leveraged the occasion to counsel the children on the benefits of running away from crime and criminal activities.

Speaking at the event, the Executive Director of the foundation, Mrs Oriyomi Orija, said that the foundation and its partners were at the centre to bring joy, happiness and love to children at the correctional centre, who are away from their homes due to one circumstance or the other.

Represented by the Head, Legal of the foundation, Amosun Mauyon, Orija said that there was the need for children to run away from crime as it poses a dent on their potentials to realise their dreams in life.

“Do everything not to commit crime, report bullying to the appropriate authority, Orija said.

She expressed gratitude to Lagos Food Bank and Arogi Trauma Care Foundation for partnering with the foundation to make the celebration worthwhile.

Also speaking, Adedeji Odusanya, a Clinical Psychologist from the Arogi Trauma Care Foundation, advised the children out there to take things easy.

Odusanya said that there were a lot challenges in the environment that could make children to go above board, predisposing them to crime.

“They should be aware of their development stage in life, they are adolescents, predisposed to experimenting with life.

“They want to follow everything that impact their pleasure, and feelings, Odusanya said.

The psychologist noted that during the adolescent stage, children are challenged by their feelings and how to control their emotions.

He advised children passing through the adolescent stage of life to leverage the internet and learn about the nature of the adolescent.

“They should learn more about their nature and that will help them. They should be more aware of who they are, and that will be able to put them in check,” Odusanya said.

For Amaka Okechukwu Opara, an Economist, Children’s Day is a day to share hearts of kindness with children.

She expressed gratitude to Headfort Foundation for the kind gesture of marking the day at the Special Correctional Centre.

Opara advised children to be aware that they are the future.

“Children should think of how to make themselves better.

“Children should know that they can be a strong positive force for humanity

“When they wake up every day, they should think of how to serve God and others, Opara said.

The climax of the event was the sharing of food and drinks to children at the correctional centre.
