Ajimobi commends NACA, OYSACA over reduction in HIV/AIDS prevalence rate

GOV. Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State has commended the National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA) on its role in reducing HIV/AIDS prevalence rate in the state.

The governor gave the commendation on Tuesday when a delegation from NACA and the Oyo State Agency for the Control of AIDS (OYSACA) visited him in Ibadan.

Ajimobi also commended the proactive role of OYSACA in tackling the spread of the disease in the state.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Mrs Florence Ajimobi, the wife of the governor and OYSACA Chairman had led the NACA delegation to the governor’s office.

The governor said the two agencies had proven that focused partnership could be highly productive.

“I wish to commend NACA and OYSACA for their contribution which has brought the prevalence rate from 5 to 0.9 per cent in the state.

“Your effort has brought the HIV/AIDS prevalence rate to a controllable region, this is very commendable,” he said.

Earlier, Mrs Ajimobi had thanked the governor for his `unflinching support’ which enabled the agency achieve the reduction of HIV/AIDS prevalence rate in the state.

She said that the governor had continued to support OYSACA through budgetary allocation when the World Bank stopped providing grants.

“On May 29, I will be leaving office as chairman of OYSACA, I am pleased to announce that your support earned us the successes we have achieved.

“I am happy that in our time, the prevalence rate feels from 5 to 0.9 per cent, it is such a cheering development,” he said.

In her speech, the Chairperson of  NACA, Pauline Tallen,  thanked the governor for hosting the 5th National Council on AIDS conference.

She said the governor had performed creditably in the health sector, adding “our prayer is that your legacies in the health sector are sustained.” (NAN)
