ANAMBRA State Government has presented 63 tricycle ambulances and other medical equipment to the 63 primary health centres across the state.

The 63 primary health centres cut across the 21 local government areas, three in each LG.

Some other medical equipment includes refrigerators, Kidney dishes, fecus cope, delivery set and curved artery.

Presenting the items to the health personal at Awka South LG field, Amawbia, Governor Willie Obiano said his administration was determined to provide every necessary facility to improve human lives.

The governor said, “the state has a total of 175 Primary Health Centres. We just renovated 63 across the state and the remaining 112 will be completed in the next phase.’’

He re-emphasised the need to train and retrain health workers to enable them to get used to modern technology for effective service delivery.

Obiano urged the president-generals and traditional rulers to ensure the facilities were utilised according to specifications, saying the state government would hold the personnel management responsible in case of any loss or damage.

Joe Akabuike, the commissioner for Health, mentioned various measures Obiano administration had taken to ensure zero records of maternal mortality rate in the state as well as success rate.

Akabuike emphasised that the present administration had renovated and equipped 37 General Hospitals, three of which had been upgraded to Teaching Hospitals.

He commended Obiano for setting the pace in keying into the Health Insurance Scheme.

Chioma Ezenyimulu, the executive secretary, Anambra State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, ASPHCDA, pointed out that it was the ultimate goal of government to achieve one Primary Health Centre in each of the 323 political wards.

Ezenyimulu added that the tricycle ambulances and other equipment would help to reposition the state’s primary healthcare arrangement to function effectively.

Also during the event, the World Health Organisation, WHO, handed over 22 motorbikes to Anambra State Government to strengthen disease surveillance across the state.

Willie Onuorah, a representative of the WHO,  said the essence of the motorbikes was to develop a strong surveillance system to support early detection of epidemics with a view to averting its outbreak.

Handover of keys to the beneficiaries as well as presentation of the motorbikes to the government formed the high points of the event.
