EU, UNICEF monitoring team visit project sites in Anambra State

A monitoring Team of the European Union, EU, and UNICEF have visited some of their health project sites in various areas of Anambra State.

The visits were to provide opportunity for them to monitor its operational modus and then foster ways for sustainability.

It was aimed at ensuring healthy living, targeted at WASHCOM programme that include proper hand washing, provision of good drinking water and open defecation free.

The team was accompanied by state and Federal Government representatives to Aguata, Nnewi North and Idemili South Local Government areas, where the projects are sited.

The UN Representative, Kate Kenebi, expressed joy at the level of work done, and called on the stakeholders to take ownership of the projects and foster ways to expand them.

Kenebi expressed disappointment that erosion has hindered progress of work at Obizi Community in Aguata LGA.

The Anambra State Commissioner for Public Utility, Emeka Ezenwanne, thanked EU and UNICEF for choosing Anambra State for their health projects.

The commissioner, who was represented by Acting Director, Rural Water and Sanitation, RUWASA, Victor Ezekwuo, promised proper maintenance, usage and effective management of the projects.

A representative from the National Planning, Abuja, Ikem Azubuike, spoke on need for proper maintenance as well as making effective use of the projects to generate funds.

Azubuike solicited for a WASHCOM unit to be sited in their project areas.

The Transition Committee, TC, Chairman, Aguata LGA, Eche Ezeibe hailed the EU and UNICEF for coming to their aid, describing erosion at the Obizi community as one of their major challenges.

The TC Chairman, Nnewi North, Chukwudi Orizu, praised the team for their wonderful programme and commended Umuelle community for welcoming it.

He urged them to continue with WASHCOM activities for healthy living.

The TC Chairman, Idemili South, Dan Unachukwu, extolled the cordial relationship between WASHCOM unit and the authority of the LGAs
