Health commissioner hails Government over hospital refurbishment

ANAMBRA State Commissioner for Health, Dr Vincent Okpala has paid glowing tribute Gov. Obiano for speedy refurbishing and inauguration of the Immaculate Heart Multi Specialty Hospital, Aguleri.

Dr Okpala made this known while addressing Health Information Correspondents in his office at the Jerome Udoji Secretariat Complex, Awka.

He noted that the inauguration of the state-of-the-art hospital at Aguleri, Anambra East Local Government Area (LGA) has demonstrated government’s determination in delivering functional healthcare system in the state.

“Although the multi-million naira hospital is owned by the Onitsha Catholic Archdiocese but government partnered them to ensure they meet our standard in the health sector services.’’

The commissioner said the partnership yielded fruits because people from four major LGAs, Ayamelum, Oyi, Anambra East and Anambra West would receive quality healthcare services from the magnificent facility at their doorstep.

He added that the initiative was in line with the state government’s policy of ensuring that government and private owned hospitals in the state render quality healthcare services to Ndi Anambra.

“Services available at the facility are Pediatric Care, General Surgery, Cardiology, Accident and Emergency, Ophthalmology, Obstetrics, Orthopedic, Gynecology, X-ray, laboratory and blood banking, Ante-natal services, Medical and ENT services.

“The objective of government is to lay strong foundation stone for medical tourism in the state and our achievement in the health sector has shown that we mean business.

“Our expectation is that within the next six months people from Sokoto, Borno States and other South East states will come to patronise the hospital. They will not regret this,’’ he explained.

The commissioner said the ministry was working on directive from the governor in order to ensure speedy completion of ongoing reconstruction and upgrade of three major General Hospitals across the state.

Dr Okpala, then, gave thumbs up to Gov. Obiano for his leadership skills, urging other stakeholders to join hands with government in providing quality healthcare to the Ndi Anambra.
