Heavy downpour: Farmers begin planting in Dutse, environs

SEQUEL to heavy downpour recorded Saturday, farmers in Dutse Local Government Area of Jigawa and its environs have commenced planting for this year’s cropping season.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that farmers on Sunday morning went to their farms with different farm implements to till the land and plant crops.
In many farming communities in the area, the farmers were seen busy planting assorted crops on their farms.
The farmers had earlier cleared and applied local manure on the farms.
One of them in Jigawar Tsada village, Malam Graba Yunusa, told NAN that he went with five of his children to harrow and plant at the same time.
Yunusa said farmers in the area were encouraged by the level of rainfall that has so far been recorded in the area.
Another farmer in Malamawa village, Malam Hassan Muhammad, said himself and his neighbours in the area had already planted completed planting on their farms.
Muhammad said farmers in the area were motivated to start planting by the volume of rain recorded.
Malam Musa, another farmer in Warwade village,said majority of farmers in the area had already completed planting of crops as a result of the rain recorded on Saturday..
Musa added that all farmers in the community were ready for this year’s cropping season.
Also, another farmer from Baranda village, Malam Adamu Shahudi, said some farmers in community had already planted since last week, while others planted after Saturday’s rainfall.
The farmers planted sesame, beans, sorghum, millet, rice, among other crops
