AS the clamor for a better and a more peaceful Nigeria continues, it seems that many of our political and religious leaders, and top stakeholders have buried the many lessons taught by diplomacy.

In the past weeks, Nigerians have witnessed the abandonment of rhetorics in pointing out the failures of this present government. Top government functionaries have resorted to name calling.

A case in point is the diatribe between Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State and Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State. Mohammed linked Ortom to instigating violence on herders across the country, adding that herders as global citizens can reside in any place without visa and can carry AK47 with which the allegedly perpetrate criminal activities to defend themselves.

On his part, Ortom called him a terrorist and instigating the plot by Cattle breeders association to assassinate him, urging Nigerians to hold him responsible should anything happen to him.

Some groups and Nigerians have expressed dissatisfaction over the altercations and other troubles bedeviling the countery.

One of such groups is the association of Concerned Nigerian Forum, CNF.

The CNF is a Pressure Group founded by Nigerians in Italy and its members cut across all works of life and in different countries. With the incident happening in Nigeria, the CNF has come out t express her position over the increasing apprehension brought about by the division between the Fulani Herdsmen and the rest of Nigerians and the glaring vacuum of leadership, nepotism, and poor structure.

The group urged President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration to wake up and address the countries pressing challenges as failure to do so may ignite another civil war.

It urged northern elders and Miyetti Allah Association to desist from defending criminal elements they claim are not Nigerians or join the table for an appropriate solution.

It stated that the President must discontinue his body language, innuendos, and silence and order the security agencies to fish out the perpetrators of these heinous crimes and ensure they face the wrath of the law to serve as a deterrent.

The group said that Buhari must reassure Nigerians that he is not the northern President but the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“Buhari must put his religion and tribe aside and protect the lives and properties of all Nigerians,” it said in a statement made available to Realnews on Friday, February 26.

The group, however called on all Nigerians to sheate their swords and work with the security agencies to bring this menace to a lasting end.

This statement was signed on behalf of the group by Patrick Guobadia, its spokesperson.
