DR Pamela Ajayi, President, Healthcare Federation of Nigeria (HFN), on Monday called for more public and private integration to promote accessible and quality healthcare delivery in Nigeria.

Ajayi made the call at a news conference organised by HFN ahead of the body’s two-day annual conference in Lagos.

She said: ”There is a need to bridge the gap between the public and private healthcare providers in the health sector.

”Seventy per cent of the healthcare delivery is being done by the private sector and still, there is still no handshake between the public and the private sector.

”For many years, we have been talking of public-private partnership that has remained limited and this is the right time for integration between the two.”

She noted that there was need for a seamless integration that works for all stakeholders in the sector, either private or public.

The HFN President said that the theme of the conference: ”Bridging the Gaps in Healthcare: Public-Private Integration as a Catalyst for Sustainable Growth”, was timely.

”We represent everyone in the health sector and our mission is to improve healthcare in Nigeria and ensure access to affordable and quality care for all.

”A lot of issues that affect the sector will be discussed and we have experts in the various specialties in the health and other sectors to address some of these issues,” she said.

According to her, the Minister of State for Health, Dr Tunji Alausa, and Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State among others are expected at the conference.

Also, Dr Njide Ndili, the Vice-President of HFN, said the body, a private healthcare provider, remains a critical pillar in health system delivery.

”In the past, the private sector speaks with different voices but the HFN has brought us together to speak with one voice.

”Our aim is to make sure that as we advocate, promote ourselves and integrate into the healthcare, government policies and the environment will be favourable for us to thrive,” she said. (NAN)
