A FOUNDATION known as HID Awolowo Foundation is to be inaugurated soon. The announcement about the foundation was contained a press report issued by the Obafemi Awolowo Foundation on Tuesday, September 22. In the statement signed by Tokunbo Awolowo-Dosumu, executive director of the Obafemi Awolowo Foundation, the proposed HID Awolowo Foundation would be in honour of Hannah Idowu Dideolu Awolowo, chairperson and moving spirit of the Obafemi Awolowo, who died on Saturday, September 19, at age of 99.
According to Awolowo-Dosumu, the HID Foundation is meant “to celebrate and commemorate in perpetuity the outstanding contributions of Mama, HID to family values, entrepreneurship and perseverance in the face of adversity.”
She said although details and fine points of the new foundation were still being worked out, “it takes no great insight to appreciate the synergy between the values that Mama stood for and exemplified and the legacy of the sage, from which the Foundation has derived its core mandate and competencies.”
Besides, the executive director of the Obafemi Awolowo Foundation said was pertinent to recall the late HID as the matriarch of the Awolowo was fondly called, that her fortitude and exemplary forte in keeping the faith even when her husband was unjustly persecuted by political authorities and in the years when the husband died. She said the late matriarch would be greatly missed for her business acumen, organisational intelligence and hard work, which stood her in good stead throughout her remarkable life.
“It is in recognition of these virtues and the need to underline the careers of role models and visionaries in a morally adrift generation that the HID Awolowo Foundation is being instituted under the aegis of the Obafemi Awolowo Foundation,” Awolowo-Dosumu.
