High turnout hinders voting in Jikwoyi

HIGH turnout of voters have hindered voters from performing their civil rights at the LEA Primary School, Phase 1, Jikwoyi.
The voters made this known to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) at the polling unit in LEA primary school Phase 1, Jikwoyi.
NAN reports that the INEC officials accredited only few voters and stopped because of the large turnout with only two machines provided by INEC.
Mr Williams Gwobia, a resident of Jikwoyi expressed displeasure over stopping of the voting process before 2:30p.m. being the time announced by INEC to end.
“I saw the beginning of the voting, which started peacefully but now the INEC officials have stopped capturing people before time.
“For now, nothing is happening, voting has stopped, situation is hot, everybody is angry and the INEC officials are not helping issues.” he said.
Mrs Rose Igwe, also a resident of Jikwoyi said that the INEC officials suddenly stopped, adding that the crowd was large and “cannot be controlled”.
“The officials have stopped working and we are just standing; some are trying to cause trouble, while some are trying to calm the situation.
“Also, the security agents are trying to calm the situation, we are more than 3,000 and the machines are only two,” she said.
Another resident, Mr Bolaji Omoh said the situation “is getting out of hand and the security agents cannot control it.”
“My take is that the INEC should be coordinated, they are not even managing the situation well even though the machines are very few to carry the population.
” Maybe INEC is looking for a way to cancel this unit, but it will not work for them, we must cast our voties today, nothing should stop it today, ” she said.
Also, one of the security agents, who refused to provide his name to NAN said that the unit could not be cancelled.
” We will try our best to ensure that the situation is calm and people will cast their vote peacefully.
“The machines are few, two is not enough, but there is nothing one can do than to try to calm the situation and ensure that everybody casts his or her vote,” he said.
However, an INEC official, noted that the reason the voting process was stopped was because of the large crowd which could not be controlled.
“The machine is working even though it’s only two, but there are too many people and it is disorganised, we are having over 3,000 voters.
“But we will make sure that everything is put in order.”
