MR Babatunde Olaniyan, the Executive Chairman, Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) has lauded plans by the African Students Football Union (ASFU) to honour legends of 3SC and Rangers International.

The News Agency of Nigeria(NAN) reports that Olaniyan was a former Deputy Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly .
ASFU in conjunction with 3SC and Rangers managements are planning to
honour the 1976 Aftican Cup Winners Cup winning squad of IICC Shooting Stars and 1977 winning Rangers International squad.
He said the event is tagged “Recognition of Essence Project For African Football Teams And Legends- A Day to Celebrate the African Legends”
It is planned to serve as motivation for upcoming players.
He described the event as a positive development, saying the honour for the legends was long overdue.
Olaniyan said the club decided to partner ASFU on the project because of its belief in honouring legends who have done 3SC and Nigeria as a country proud.
“I remember vividly how we were thinking along this direction when Chief Segun Odegbami clocked 70 years. I called him and told him that we at 3SC are celebrating him.
“It was during that period that I got informed about this event and I am happy we are working with like minds to put this together
“This is to show that if you do well in whatever you are doing, you will be recognised, if not now but later,” he said.
The former deputy speaker said their belief was that upcoming footballers would be made to know that combining the game with academics was a worthwhile venture.
“Here in Ibadan, we are ready to bring our heroes for the people to see, moreso that we now have a befiting sporting arena.
“Thanks to our sports loving governor, His Excellency, Gov. Seyi Makinde,” he said.(NAN)
