Honours for Soludo, Onu, Others

CHUKWUMA Soludo, former governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, and Ogbonnaya Onu, former governor of old Abia state, are among prominent Igbo sons and daughters to be honoured in the maiden edition of Ugwu Ndigbo awards holding in Johannesburg, South Africa on October 24. The event which is billed for the high brow Michelangelo hotel in Mandela square is jointly organised by Clarion Africa magazine and Ohaneze Ndigbo South Africa.
Also to be honoured are Peter Obi, former governor of Anambra State; Martin Elechi, former governor of Ebonyi State; Ike Ekweremmadu, deputy Senate president; Ben Obi, former special adviser to former President Goodluck Jonathan on inter-party relations; Igwe Emmanuel Ugwu, a traditional ruler of Okwe kingdom; Uche Ogar, chief executive officer of Masters Energy Oil and a few others.
Also to be honoured is Ben Okoli, a renowned neurologist, who is based in South Africa.
Explaining rationale for the awards, Chooks Oko, one of the organisers noted that it was only proper to acknowledge the hard work of those who toil day and night to make life easier for others. ‘There are unique qualities to each of the awardees. They exude a lot of selflessness in their handling of given assignments and relationship with the people. Our aim is to appreciate these people so that they can keep doing good while motivating others to emulate them,” Oko said.
Ugo Nnachi, a former head of service in Ebonyi State, will deliver the key note address while Francis Nwonwu, a professor at the Africa Institute of South Africa is the guest of honour.
