House help in court over alleged theft of employer’s $2,290

A 31- year-old house help, Kadija Suleiman, who allegedly stole her employer’s 2,290 dollars (one million Naira equivalent) and other valuables was on Wednesday arraigned in a Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court.
The police charged Suleiman, who resides in Kabala Doki area of Kaduna with two counts bordering on conspiracy and stealing.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Chidi Leo, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Oct. 2, at Kabala Costain in Kaduna.
Leo alleged that the defendant broke into the room of her employer, Hajiya Habiba Kamal and stole the money, and six pieces of wrappers valued at N200,000 and a Samsung iPad.
He said the police was able to track the defendant to Ungwan Dosa, Kaduna and arrested her.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened the provisions of Sections 241 and 271 of the Kaduna State Penal Code, 2017.
She, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Magistrate, Ibrahim Emmanuel admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Emmanuel said that one of the sureties must be a blood relation to the defendant residing within the court’s jurisdiction.
He adjourned the case until Nov. 28, for hearing. (NAN)
