House of representatives commiserates with families of victim of Niger tanker explosion

THE House of Representatives expresses sadness over the tragic tanker explosion at Dikko Junction, Gurara Local Government Area of Niger State.
According to the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA), the devastating incident involving a petrol-laden truck along the Abuja-Kaduna highway on Saturday claimed over 86 lives and left 55 others injured. Victims have been laid to rest in a mass burial, leaving families and communities in profound grief.
The House extends its deepest condolences to the bereaved families and affected communities in Niger State.
Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, PhD, GCON, described the incident as unfortunate and called for an investigation by relevant authorities to prevent future occurrences. He also emphasised the need for motorists to remain vigilant and prioritise road safety.
This tragic event underscores the urgent need to improve safety in the transportation of hazardous materials and enforce stricter road safety measures nationwide. It serves as a solemn reminder of the collective responsibility, including legislative action, to protect lives on Nigerian roads.
As the “People’s House,” the House of Representatives reaffirms its commitment to initiatives that promote public safety and improve the welfare of Nigerians.
