House of representatives committee on Judiciary Pays Courtesy Visit to Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Duoye Diri

THE House of Representatives Committee on Judiciary, led by Wole Oke, chairman of the Committee, embarked on a courtesy visit to Senator Duoye Diri the Governor of Bayelsa State. The visit aimed to assess the challenges facing the Judiciary in the state and explore possible legislative interventions.

Governor Duoye Diri, a former member of the National Assembly, warmly welcomed the parliamentary delegation to Bayelsa State. He commended the Committee for its proactive approach in conducting an on-the-spot assessment of the state’s judiciary facilities. The Governor expressed his support for the Committee’s efforts, emphasizing the importance of a functional and efficient Judiciary in the dispensation of justice.

“I am delighted to receive the House of Representatives Committee on Judiciary on their courtesy visit to Bayelsa State,” Governor Diri said. “This visit is particularly significant as it marks the first official courtesy call I have received since assuming my second term in office. It underscores the importance of the Judiciary as a critical arm of government that must be fully supported.”

During the visit, Governor Diri emphasized the commitment of state governments to work with the federal government, the legislature, and the judiciary to address the challenges facing the country. He expressed optimism that Nigeria would overcome its current challenges and emerge stronger.

“The challenges we are currently facing as a country require a collective effort from all stakeholders,” Governor Diri said. “State governments are ready to collaborate with the federal government, the legislature, and the judiciary to ensure that these challenges are comprehensively addressed. I am confident that with our collective efforts, Nigeria will be great again.”

Governor Diri further highlighted the high regard he has for the legislature and the significance of all endeavors aimed at bolstering the judiciary.

Hon. Wole Oke, during the visit, reiterated the Committee’s commitment to addressing the challenges facing the Judiciary in Bayelsa State. He emphasized the Committee’s mandate to ensure that the Judiciary is well-equipped to perform its functions effectively.

The Committee’s visit to Bayelsa State is part of its ongoing oversight activities aimed at strengthening the Judiciary across the country. The Committee will continue to engage with stakeholders and explore legislative interventions to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the Judiciary.
