Housewife seeks divorce on grounds of alleged maltreatment
Africa
A housewife, Khadijat Audu, on Wednesday pleaded with a Mararaba Upper Area Court, Nasarawa State, to dissolve her marriage to Abdulazeez Umar on grounds of alleged maltreatment .
Audu, who is also an applicant told the court that Umar has failed in his duties as a husband.
”I got married to Umar in December 2018, under Islamic Laws and customs and we have two children.
”My husband’s sudden change in attitude towards me has killed the love I have for him.
“We were happily married until 2020, when my husband began to maltreat me. I filed a suit against him, but we later reconciled through the help of well-wishers of the marriage.
“Infact, through my efforts, my husband got a good paying job and not too long , started molesting and maltreating me,” she said.
She alleged that Umar asked her to leave his home.
She also requested that the court to grant her custody of the two children and order the husband to give a certain amount monthly at the discretion of the court for the children’s fees, medical bills and home upkeep.
However, Umar denied the allegations.
The judge, Malam Mohammed Jibril, adjourned the case until Oct. 24, for hearing and consideration of settlement. (NAN)
