How Minister, Wife, Son Died in Accident

JAMES Ocholi, minister of state for labour, his wife, Blessing Fatima and son, Aaron Enojo have died in an auto accident along Abuja-Kaduna highway on Sunday, March 6. While Ocholi, 55, and his son, Aaron Enojo, 20, died instantly, his wife, a Registrar at Salem University, Sokoto, went into coma before she finally died in the hospital from injuries sustained in the accident. They were travelling in his Prado sports utility vehicle to Kaduna, when the accident occurred.

The Kaduna State Ministry of Health and Human Service  confirmed the death of Ocholi’s wife while Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State also stated it in a post on his Facebook and Twitter posts on Sunday evening.

El Rufai’s post stated: “Sad, Sad Development: It is with great sadness that the Kaduna State Ministry of Health and Human Services further announces the death of Mrs. Ocholi at Doka Hospital, who was in coma since the accident near Rijana, along the Kaduna-Abuja Road.

The governor said: “Earlier, the death of Minister Ocholi and his son were announced. May their souls rest in perfect peace, Amen.”

Francis Udoma, Kaduna State Sector Commander of Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC, explained how the accident happened 57 kilometres away from Kaduna. He said the rear tyre of the SUV they were travelling in burst, while the vehicle skidded off the road and somersaulted several times into the bush, adding that  his driver, the chief detail, the orderly and his personal assistant were injured and are receiving treatment.

The Presidency which was concerned about the accident  directed some members of the cabinet to receive Ocholi’s  remains at National Hospital, Abuja, Sunday night. They include Babachir Lawal, secretary to the government of the federation, SGF, Chris Ngige, minister of labour,  Governor Yahaya Bello Kogi State, Professor Isaac Adewole, minister of health and Tayo Haastrup, chief medical director of the hospital.
