…commends judges for upholding people’s will

THE Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) wishes to congratulate His Excellency, Dr. Alex Otti, the Governor of Abia State, on his well-deserved victory at the Abia State governorship election petition tribunal.

The tribunal, in its wisdom and fairness, dismissed the petition filed by the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Okey Ahaiwe, for lack of merit. The tribunal affirmed that Governor Otti won the majority of the lawful votes cast in the March 18, 2023 governorship election and was duly declared as the winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

HURIWA commends the judges of the tribunal for upholding the will and popular wish of the people of Abia State, who freely and peacefully exercised their franchise in favour of Governor Otti and his Labour Party (LP). The tribunal has demonstrated its independence and integrity by delivering a sound and credible judgement that reflects the true outcome of the election.

The group also applauds the thousands of LP supporters who came from different parts of the state to celebrate Governor Otti’s victory outside the Federal High Court complex. Their jubilation is a testimony of their confidence and satisfaction with Governor Otti’s performance and leadership. They urge them to continue to support and cooperate with Governor Otti as he strives to deliver good governance and dividends of democracy to all Abians.

They finally call on all stakeholders, especially the PDP and its candidate, to accept the verdict of the tribunal in good faith and join hands with Governor Otti to move Abia State forward. They believe that Abia State deserves peace, unity and development, not acrimony, litigation and distraction.

HURIWA reaffirms its commitment to promoting human rights, democracy and justice in Nigeria. HURIWA will continue to monitor and report on the political and electoral developments in Abia State and other parts of the country.
