HYDRO-electric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (HYPPADEC), has commenced ‘Youths Transformation Programme (YTP)’, training for over 5,000 unemployed youths and women.

The Managing Director of the commission, Alhaji Abubakar Yelwa, inaugurated the training on Thursday in Minna.

Yelwa said that it was the desire of the commission to  improve the living standard of teeming youths across the 6 HYPPADEC states through jobs creation.

He said that the participants were drawn from Niger, Kogi, Kebbi, Benue, Plateau and Kwara states.

Yelwa said that the commission was partnering with the NDE and Minna Institute of Technology and Innovation MITI.

This is in line with the federal government policy to take off the streets those numbers of youths as a life-changing skills acquisition exercise.

He maintained that the beneficiaries cut across the six states, with Niger State having about 1,400 participants.

According to him, they are entitled to a monthly stipend of N15,000 for graduates and N10,000 for non graduates.

Similarly, starter packs await them after the training for three and six months, respectively.

Earlier, the Rector of MITI, Dr Nana Ibrahim, who applauded the commission for the foresight, assured to live up to the expectations.

Ibrahim said that only those who performed creditably with good character would be awarded with certificates.

” You must be seen to demonstrate high level of moral conduct during the training exercise,” he said.

The Niger Commissioner of Youths and Sports, Alhaji Mamman Musa, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Mr Jonathan Wasa, commended the efforts of commission for creating jobs opportunities for the youths.

He urged the participants to leverage on the opportunity seriously so as to be self reliant and contribute towards nation building.

Speaking on behalf of the  beneficiaries, Abdullahi Salihu of ‘People With Disability’ and Zainab Abubakar, appreciated the gesture of the commission.

They promised to justify the confidence reposed in them by making use of the opportunity maximally.(NAN)
