THE organizers of Africa’s premium energy event, Africa Oil Week, has announced the appointment of Emmanuel Ibe Kachikwu, former Nigerian Minister of State for Petroleum Resource as the Ambassador for the Oil Week.

As an ambassador, he will be expected to Chair Nigeria National Upstream Day and planning meeting for Africa Oil Week in Lagos scheduled for the 24th of May 2022.

The planning day event, which is a key opportunity to set Africa’s energy course on a new path, will be attended by the most senior representatives in Nigerian Oil and Gas to advance Nigeria’s oil and gas agenda.

The statement by the organisers said that the outcome would provide the priorities regarding the sector for the Nigerian National Showcase at the event.

It also announced that later this year heads of state, industry leaders and multinational oil and gas companies will convene for the annual Africa Oil Week conference in Cape Town from 3-7 October.

Part of Ibe Kachikwu’s duties will be to work together with Africa Oil Week to showcase the importance of Africa developing its resources sustainably while also supporting the Nigerian Oil and Gas sector.

The responsibility of the Africa Oil Week Ambassador is very critical at this period of oil transitioning as Ibe Kachikwu has argued in an article that the request from the West for some African countries not to exploit their natural resources, poses a risk to their economic upliftment.

“This means Africa is at a crossroads,” he said.

He added also that with the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, the need to source new energy suppliers has come to the fore.

“However, some African countries are being urged by the West not to harvest their natural resources despite also having a duty to provide consistent energy supply to their people.

“We must unite as a continent to drive a just energy transition process from Cape to Cairo in order to move beyond being a mere supplier of primary commodities to the world, but rather an influential economic tour de force that can determine its own destiny and not be bullied on the global stage.

“African nations need to prioritize their people and the needs of their economies without hindrances or interference

“The Africa Oil Week also invites participants with interest to attend to please complete this form now to express your interest as limited space is available.

“Participants can also Get in touch with our team today to find out opportunities for their business at the event through the link,” the statement added.
