THE Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) says it will soon start a certification process for workers in the company so as to improve their performance and productivity.
The Chief Operating Officer of the company, Mr John Ayodele, made this known in a statement in Lagos on Tuesday.
Ayodele said that the move would also ensure standardisation of their competency skills in line with international standards and check loses.
He said that the certification process is ranked in three categories of bronze, silver and gold for growth chart, saying that it would begin with lines workers and customer relations officers.
Ayodele explained that apart from IBEDC, other power distribution companies in the country were also planning to embrace the idea.
“The Association of Nigerian Electricity Distributors (ANED) and the Electricity Distribution Companies (DisCos) are collaborating with national and international partners like Association of Power Utility of Africa (APUA), African Network of Centre of Excellency in Electricity (ANCEE) and National Power Training Institute of Nigeria (NAPTIN).
“The collaboration is to improve the capacities of the over 21,000 workforce in the power sector,’’ he said.
Ayodele said that he had just been conferred with an award by ANED, saying that the award was presented to him by Mr Rotimi Adebari, ANED’s Human Resources Project Coordinator.
He said that Adebari also confirmed the plan to introduce certification process in other power distribution companies during the award presentation ceremony at the IBEDC head office.
Ayodele said that the award was given for his commitment to human capital development in the power industry.
He said that Adebari also gave IBEDC thumbs-up for training over 1,723 of its personnel, which represents over 70 per cent of its workforce in two years.
Ayodele applauded ANED for projecting the electricity Distribution Companies (DisCos) and government efforts on electricity in a good light.
He said the award was a wake-up call to do more and to ensure that IBEDC moves from third to the first position on human capital development index.
Ayodele urged the Federal Government and other stakeholders to better equip the National Power Training Institute of Nigeria (NAPTIN) to cater for the energy gap in the industry. (NAN)
