THE president of the Brazil Africa Institute (IBRAF), Professor João Bosco Monte, met  Abdulhakim Elwaer, assistant director/general representative for the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), to discuss a collaboration agenda between the two institutions aimed at fostering South-South and Triangular Cooperation.

The development of irrigation systems for sugarcane cultivation, the improvement of agricultural cooperatives, and the empowerment of African youth in technical areas were among the main topics debated. During the meeting, which took place at FAO headquarters in Cairo, Professor João Bosco Monte also presented the Youth Technical Training Program, IBRAF’s capacity-building project tailored to young Africans.

The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) is a specialized agency of the UN system that leads international efforts to defeat hunger and poverty through food security and agricultural development. It works in over 130 countries worldwide.
