GODDIE Ibru, President, Nigeria – Russia Business Council on Monday urged the Federal Government to harness agriculture, solid minerals , hospitality and Tourism as alternative sources of wealth creation for the country.

Ibru said this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on the sidelines of the Hi-impact interactive lecture series, with the theme: “Wealth Creation, A Practical Experience,” organised by Caleb University, Imota in Lagos.

He said one of the easiest ways to diversify the country was agriculture, solid minerals, hospitality and Tourism.

According to him, while solid minerals might be capital intensive, agriculture which is the mainstream of Nigeria economy, is cheaper to invest on due to available lands and population.

The president urged the Federal Government to reintroduce a more functional quality control board similar to the old marketing board .

He said the board would put in place control measures on agricultural products to meet national and international standards.

” A more functional inspection agency should be in place to ensure that goods packaged for exportation meet national and international standard, ” he said.

Ibru noted that the government should also make Nigeria an attractive destination for investment and come up with policies which could create incentives for people to invest.

According to him, the Nigerian government should develop its foreign direct investment to make the country attractive for foreign investors .

“By this policy, foreigners would be encouraged and say if we go to Nigeria, we will make good return on our investment, ” he said.

Ibru said government, in achieving this, should ensure that the country was safe, as security was topmost and also on some of the rules of doing business in the country.

“The rules should be such that people are not discouraged, if you put too many rules on the way of doing business, people will get discouraged.

“Just like one of the laudable policies of the present government that if you want to come to Nigeria for business you can get the visa at the airport.

“That is very useful because in the past we have to wait for days, weeks , months at our hustling before you can get the visa, ” he said. (NAN)
