Idris assents to N19bn supplementary budget

GOV. Nasir Idris of Kebbi, on Wednesday assented to N19,867,090,924:00 supplementary budget passed by the State House of Assembly.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the governor signed into law the supplementary budget at Government House, Birnin Kebbi immediately the state assembly presented same to him.

Speaking shortly after signing the budget, Idris lauded the assembly members for expediting action in passing the bill in view of its importance to the state and citzenry.

He said that the supplementary budget consisted of projects that had direct bearing to the lives of Kebbi people, hence the need for the appropriation to cater for such needs.

“As a responsible government, we find it very necessary to request the State House of Assembly to give us approval of a supplementary budget to execute such projects to our people, this administration is driven by people of Kebbi State.

“I must appreciate the support this administration is enjoying from the house of assembly because this government had never asked the assembly to do something that they failed to do.

*You have supported us and we are very happy about that,” Idris said.

The governor attributed the cordial working relationship between the executive and the legislature to the calibre of people in the assembly as well as the zeal they had in mind to move the state forward irrespective of party differences.

He assured the members of his total support to the house, saying, “you have made us happy and we have no reason whatsoever not to make you happy.”

Idris also expressed delight over the “vote of confidence” passed in his favour by the assembly members in view of what they described as “purposeful leadership, saying that he was not aware of the issue because he was out of the country when the event took place.”

The governor pledged to carry all the  people of the state along in the discharge of his official responsibility while extending a hand of fellowship to the opposition parties, especially PDP to come and join hands with him to build a new Kebbi to become the   envy of all.

Earlier, the Speaker of the assembly, Alhaji Mohammed Usman-Ankwai told the governor that they were in Government House to first of all congratulate him over his victory at the Election Petition Tribunal.

He said, “The victory at the  tribunàl signified that the people, reaffirmed their faith in your leadership style and vision for the state.

“Your Excellency Sir, this Honourable House recognises the challenges faced during this legal process and it is with great admiration that we commend your reailliance, unwavering commitment and steadfast belief in the justice system.

“Your victory is not only a vindication of your mandate but also a victory of democracy itself. Under your few months leadership Kebbi has witnessed remarkable progress and development in various sectors.”

The speaker opined that the visionary policies of the governor had positively impacted on the lives of people, fostering growth and improving the standard of living of generality.

Usman-Ankwai described the supplementary budget as a crucial instrument that reflected the commitment of the governor to address the evolving needs of the state. (NAN)
