THE Council Chairman, Danko Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State, Alhaji Hussaini Aliyu-Bena, says no fewer than three neighbouring states are currently benefiting from consistent support to security agencies by Gov. Nasir Idris.

This effort by the governor, he said, had raised crop cultivation and yield to about 70 to 80 per cent this year in the crisis prone areas.

Aliyu-Bena told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Birnin Kebbi on Sunday that the gigantic effort which was worthy of commendation positively impacted on the people of Sokoto, Zamfara and Niger States.

He said: “The greatest concern of our people is insecurity, but when the new administration under His Excellency, Dr Nasir Idris came onboard, the security situation has tremendously improved, following some measures introduced to curb the menace.

“When he assumed duty, the governor summoned a stakeholders’ meeting, where suggestions on how to tackle the menace were offered.

“In view of his determination to bring an end to the lingering problem, he accepted and implemented all the suggestions offered during the meeting.”

Confirming the governor’s efforts is beyond the boundaries of Kebbi, the chairman said many neighbouring villagers from Sokoto, Zamfara and Niger States who fled their homes to take refuge at Mahuta in Fakai local government as well as other villages in Kebbi have now returned to their homes.

“This has led to increase in farm cultivation not only in Kebbi but across villages in the three neighbouring states. Following these efforts, crop cultivation and yield have increased to about 70 to 80 per cent in the crisis prone areas,” he said.

The chairman praised the governor for not only renovating but also establishing more military base in the Southern part of the state.

He said.: “As I am talking to you, the governor has directed for renovation of military base at; Malekachi, Sakaba town and Dankolo village, while establishment of new ones is also on course.

“Melekaci was a dead zone, because nobody follows it before the coming of Gov. Idris, but to God Almighty be the glory, it has been a lively village in the last one year.

“There is another neighbouring village called Karanbana in Mariga LG of Nigeria State which was totally deserted due banditry activities but with the efforts of our governor, today, life has bounced back in the village.”

Aliyu-Bena appreciated the foresight of the governor for providing tractors to farmers in the area, saying that a farmer just needed to pay for fuel for his farm to be cultivated.

He added that the governor also distributed fertilisers free to farmers all with a view to boosting agricultural production.

In his efforts to ensure safe harvest of farm produce cultivated this year, the state government was collaborating with the Nigerian Air Force towards a hitch-free harvest across Southern part of the state.

Speaking on other sectors, the chairman commended the governor for taking a bold step towards the revocation of Koko-Dabai-Zuru road to enable the state government to take-over the construction of the road.

He also lauded the governor for prioritising education through renovation and construction of classrooms, extending years of service and years of birth for teachers as well as payment of scholarship to students both within and outside the country.

Aliyu-Bena added that the governor had introduced different empowerment programmes to encourage people of the state to become self sufficient and employers of labour, “apart from drilling of boreholes in different locations to enable people fetch potable water with ease.” (NAN)
