THE Igbinedion University, Okada, Edo has matriculated more than 1,500 students admitted for its 2023/2024 academic session.

Prof. Lawrence Ezemonye, Vice-Chancellor of the University, in a speech, called on the new intakes to abide by the rules and regulations governing the university.

Ezemonye stressed the need for the new students to strike the right balance amongst academics, extra-curricula and social life.

Active participation in the life of the campus, the vice-chancellor said, is a critical part of education at the institution

“Whether you join an existing group or start your own, there will be opportunities to make strong friendship, to work effectively with others as part of a team, to develop leadership skills and to advance a cause that is meaningful to you.

“As you prepare to start your voyage of discovery, you will have important choices to make, especially on how to spend your time wisely while here,” he said.

Ezemonye charged the students to embrace the challenges that come their way as they may just be opportunities in disguise.

According to him, the University deliberately emphasises the importance of cultivating versatile, agile learners who can thrive in diverse environments and contribute positively to society.

In a lecture titled: “Creativity and Innovation in a Digital World”, Mr Darlington Onyeagoro called on the students to be more creative and innovative notwithstanding their choice of programmes.

Onyeagoro regretted that only two per cent of the world population were involved in creative thinking process.

Creativity, he said, involves thinking outside the box, “particularly in a way that brings a change to the world”.(NAN)
