The Nigeria Police Force has denied a publication in the Leadership Newspaper publication dated October 22, 2018 on Page 6, captioned “Tension In Police As IGP Rejects DIG Promotions,” credited to one Ahuraka Isah.

In a statement issued by Jimoh Moshood, acting deputy commissioner of Police and Police spokesman, the force categorically repudiated the story as “untrue and unfounded.” Besides, the force spokesman said there was no tension in the Police and that the inspector general of Police did not reject the DIGs promotion as alleged in the report or at any time showed disapproval of the promotion of Musa Katsina Muhammad, an AIG to the rank of a deputy inspector general of Police, by the Police Service Commission.

“The assertion by the writer of the story that the IGP will not only write to the Presidency reporting the development but would neither decorate the Officers with their new ranks nor post the Officers to new position in line with their new ranks is incorrect and completely false,” Moshood said.

Further buttressing his argument, the PPRO said that the IGP had promptly approved the postings of the newly promoted DIGs and AIGs to their duty posts via internal signals released on October 18, 2018. By the posting Maigari Abbati Dikko is now as the DIG of Police, Department of Finance and Administration; Habila Joshak, the DIG of Police, Department of Operations; Emmanuel T. Inyang as the DIG of Police, Department of Information and Communication Technology, ICT; Agboola Oshodi-Glover, DIG of Police, Department of Logistics and Supply; Musa Katsina Muhammed, the DIG of Police, Department of Research and Planning; Mohammed Sani Usman as the DIG of Police, Department of Training and Development, and Peace Ibekwe Abdallah as the DIG of Police, Department of Force Criminal Intelligence and Investigation.

The PPRO also announced the posting of the AIGs as thus:

Usman Tilli Abubakar as the AIG Police, Maritime; Usman Yakubu as the AIG of Police, commandant, Police Academy, KANO; Istifanus Shetima as the AIG of Police, Office of the National Security Adviser; Godwin C. Nwobodo as the AIG of Police, NIPSS; Adeyemi O. Samuel Ogunjemilusi as the AIG of Police, Zone 6 Headquarters, Calabar; and Adekunle J. Oladunjoye as the AIG of Police, Zone 10 Headquarters, Sokoto.

The posting is with immediate effect.

Nevertheless, Moshood enjoined members of the public “to disregard and discountenance the publication insinuating that there is tension in Police as a result of the DIGs promotion.”
