Ikeja Electric Offers Debtor Customers Discount on Bills
Energy Briefs
–
IKEJA Electric Plc is ready to cut customers’ unpaid bills between 10 percent and 20 percent depending on the amount owed the firm. The company on Wednesday, August 3, said in a statement that it introduced the debt discount initiative to enable customers pay off their outstanding bills and meet their financial obligations to the company.
The initiative was designed specifically for unmetered non-maximum demand customers who are financially constrained by present harsh economic realities in the country to meet their obligations to the company.
The three-tier scheme provides a 10 percent discount for customers who owe between N50,000 and N100,000; 15 percent discount for those owing above N100,000 but less than N200,000, and 20 percent discount for customers who owe above N200,000.
Felix Ofulue, head, corporate communications of the company, said, “Ikeja Electric decided to introduce this scheme as a form of financial support to our customers who are willing to pay down on outstanding amounts owed us. By providing this discount to them, we also share part of the cost of the consumed energy.”
According to the statement, customers are required to apply to the company, stating if they wish to participate in the ‘outright or instalment’ debt discount exercise. It urged interested customers to visit the customer care representatives situated at service centres, undertakings or business units closest to them to get the details on the initiative.
Ofulue confirmed that so far the response has been good and a further testimony to the fact that many of our customers are responsible citizens who, given the right circumstances, would rather pay than owe.
