GOVERNOR Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State, on his first day in office flagged off of the construction of seven major roads in Aba, the commercial nerve centre of the state so as to give the city a face-lift.
The roads which are to be completed within the first 100 days of Ikpeazu’s administration are Umuocham Road (1.7km); Old Express Road (6km) Ukaegbu (1.4km), Umuola (1.4km) and Ehere (700metres) roads.
The rest are Kamalu Road (1.5km) and Faulks Road by Ariara (5.5km).
Speaking at the flag off ceremony, Ikpeazu assured that quality job would be done on the roads while street lights would also be installed on them.
The governor said work would begin on all the roads simultaneously. He, however, noted that work had been done on some of the roads without much success in the past, he assured that more durable work would be done this time around.
The Governor stated that completion of Kamalu Road which will link Okpulo Umuobu in Osisioma LGA would ease traffic in Aba. He, therefore, charged those who had attachments on the roads where construction would take place to remove them immediately to quicken the pace of work.
He assured the contractors handling the projects of more contracts if they met the deadline for delivery of the roads.
Earlier in his speech, Richard Nwala, permanent secretary, ministry of Works, said his ministry would give the roads accelerated supervision and assured that quality work would be done.
