IMMUNISATION is a very important process in the promotion of healthcare delivery, especially among infants, children and even unborn children.
Chioma Ezenyimulu, executive secretary, Anambra State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, ASPHCDA, noted in an interview that immunisation was very critical among infants.
“It helps to reduce mortality and morbidity among children and pregnant women,’’ Ezenyimulu said.
She made this known to newsmen in her office at Awka, noting that through immunisation, most childhood killer diseases such as whooping cough, small pox could be eradicated.
She explained that immunisation helped to boost the immune system of children as well as pregnant women.
However, she pledged that through her agency the state government and donor agencies would continue to support immunisation in Anambra State.
“This is a core function of ASPHCDA.’’
She pointed that all government bodies would contribute in immunisation campaigns through funding, bringing in free drugs, together with technical assistance.
The executive secretary urged all expectant mothers to always go for their ante-natal for proper medication and check-ups.
Ezenyimulu urged all mothers and caregivers in the state to always bring out their eligible children (0-5years) during immunisation campaigns, irrespective of their immunisation status.
According to her, children under 5 years as well as pregnant women in Anambra will continue to be free from communicable diseases as they will be enjoying free immunisation.
