Imo Grasshoppers draw with Defenders Babes at Prudent Energy Handball League

Imo Grasshoppers of Owerri on Tuesday drew 26-26 with Defenders Babes to close Day 11 matches at the ongoing 2020 Prudent Energy Handball Premier League in Abuja.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the 2020 league which began on Oct. 31 is featuring both male and female teams.

It is holding on the indoor and outdoor handball courts at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium and will end on Saturday.

The Defenders Babes led 14-10 at the break, before surrendering their lead to the Grasshoppers, leading to a ding-dong affair till the end.

Speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) later, Alabi Akinola, the coach of Defenders Babes, said his team needed victory in the match to move upward in the competition’s rankings.

“We need points to get ourselves out of the relegation zone, but we ended up with a draw. We had put our mind on the game to use it to move up.

“But I want to assure that the team will survive the relegation battle,” he said.

Akinola however acknowledged that his players’ performance during in the league could have been better, expressing the hope that they would do better.

“We are  fighting from the beginning to the end in all games played, and that is an indication of our mindset,”  he said .

In other  matches played in the league’s female category, Edo Dynamos beat Desert Queens 30-19 while Safety Babes thrashed Benue Queens 36 -28.

In the male category, COAS Shooters beat Kada Stars 31-30, Lagos Seasiders defeated Kano Pillars 30-24, while Borno Spiders lost 27-32 to Rima Strikers.(NAN)
