THE National Chairman, Peoples Democratic Party, Prince Uche Secondus, on Wednesday, led members of the party’s National Working Committee on a solidarity visit to the Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom.
The Governor of Taraba State, Mr Darius Ishaku; Governor of Gombe State, Ibrahim Dankwambo; and Governor of Bayelsa State, Seriake Dickson, were the three governors who accompanied the PDP chairman on the visit.
Secondus called on Nigerians, particularly the people of Benue State to resist the incessant killings in the country.
He alleged that the ruling party had shown a nonchalant attitude to the killings in the country.
“The Federal Government has refused to protect the people; there are killings all over the country; in Plateau, Zamfara, Taraba, Benue and other parts of the country, bloodletting all over, people must resist the killings.”
The PDP chairman also condemned the impeachment move by eight members of the state’s House of Assembly and promised the governor of their continuous support.
He said, “It is unfortunate that the Presidency was not bothered about the killings in the state; they have refused to protect us. There are killings all over the country, blood is flowing everywhere, and people must resist the killings.”
Speaking on behalf of the three governors, Dickson welcomed Ortom back to the party.
He charged the people of the state to continue to stand by the governor and the anti-open grazing law enacted by the state government, which he said remained the panacea for the clashes between farmers and herdsmen.
He also condemned the impeachment move by the eight members of the state Assembly on what he described as ‘flimsy excuses.’
Responding, Ortom described himself as a ‘prodigal son’ who had returned home.
He said his sin for his persecution by the ruling All Progressives Congress was because of his defection and the anti-open grazing law, while vowing that he would not be deterred. – Punch
