BARELY 24 hours after the dramatic removal of the Kano State Speaker, Yusuf Ata, by members of the State House of Assembly, the Deputy Governor of the State, Prof Hafiz Abubakar, has petitioned the police and the Department of States Services, alleging threat to his life.

The deputy governor expressed the anxiety that he might be removed next.

Abubakar, in his petition, addressed to the State Commissioner of Police, Rabiu Yusuf, and the State Director of the DSS requested deployment of more security operatives around him.

He accused the state government of sponsoring youths from the 44 Local Government Areas of the state to protest against his continued stay in office and force him out.

Abubakar had for some time been at loggerheads with Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, stemming from the political impasse between Ganduje and his predecessor, Kwankwaso.

On his own part, the removed Speaker, Atah, said on Tuesday that though the allegations against him were far from the truth, he had accepted his removal in good faith.

Meanwhile, a one-time Kano State Governor and former Minister of Education, Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau, said on Tuesday that he and Kwankwaso had resolved their differences. – Punch
