— Begins Construction of Speed Bumps to Arrest Future Occurrence

The #PeoplesGovernor of Imo State, His Excellency Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma, CON, has visited the survivors of the tragic accident that occurred at IMSU Junction last Saturday at the Federal University Teaching Hospital, Owerri (FUTH, formerly FMC).

Although the Governor sent a delegation of government functionaries, led by his deputy Her Excellency Lady Chinyere Ekomaru PhD, and the Chief of Staff to the Imo State Government, Barr. Nnamdi Anyaehie, to assess the survivors’ recuperation, he personally condoled with the families of the victims.

The Governor urged all Imolites to continue praying for the quick recovery of the victims during this trying time, prayed for the repose of the souls of the unfortunate dead, and noted that there is still hope for the living, as some have been discharged already.

He assured the government’s continuous care and support, announcing that the state government will cover the medical bills of all the victims.

Responding, the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of Federal University Teaching Hospital (FUTH), Owerri, Dr. Kingsley Achigbu, who was visibly elated by the state government’s presence, said the timely evacuation of the victims from the accident scene significantly contributed to saving their lives.

He added that upon their arrival at the hospital, immediate attention was given to them, noting that out of 13 victims brought in, only two were dead on arrival, while nine are still alive, some with multiple fractures and being prepared for surgeries, and the rest who are stable have already been discharged.

To prevent future occurrences, the #PeoplesGovernor has ordered a comprehensive probe into the incident to determine the immediate and remote causes of the accident.

Additionally, the state government has begun constructing speed bumps on the road, which will limit vehicles to at least 10km/hr when approaching the junction.

The Governor also appreciated some citizens who provided emergency services at the scene of the accident before government agents arrived.
