INC petitions National Assembly over extortion, humiliation by security operatives

THE Igbo National Council, INC, has petitioned the House of Representatives Committee on Public Petitions over the alleged unlawful extortion and humiliation of motorists, civilian passengers, and road users by security operatives serving in some joint taskforce/military checkpoints and outposts in the South East region of the country.

The petition, numbered 463 of 2024, specifically mentions the Chief of Defence Staff as the respondent.  According to the petition pending before the committee, the Igbo National Council has been summoned to appear before the committee on December 5, 2024, at 2:00 pm.

The committee has directed the petitioner to submit one soft and 20 hard copies of their brief on the matter and that failure to attend the hearing may result in the case being heard or determined in their absence.
