THE controversy surrounding activities of Fulani herdsmen have continued to attract attention of some stakeholders, especially concerned citizens from the South East, who have condemned needling killing of innocent citizens.
The stakeholders including Nkwo Nnabuchi, a former lawmaker, Opalaukwu Opalaezeukwu, past publicity secretary of Ohaneze Ndi Igbo, and Okoli Akirika Nnabuchi, a lawyer, expressed disappointment over nonchalant attitude of lawmakers at the National Assembly and the Anambra States House of Assembly over the menace.
He, then, called on them to promulgate a law that would restrict the herdsmen from moving around with weapons of mass destruction.
Opalaezeukwu, the chieftain of Ohaneze Ndi Igbo, called for unity of Igbo to tackle and challenge.
“One of the solutions to the herdsmen menace is for Igbos to speak with one voice.
“Let us say no to these herdsmen without fear of favour. Our lives are precious. We can’t fold our arms seeing our families being butchered and the leaders of this country are feeling unconcerned.’’
The Legal Practitioner, Akirika, emphasised the need to restructure Nigeria police to have a new re-orientation.
“It is appalling that governors cannot give order to the police and it is executed.
“They wait until the order comes from above. There is need to establish state police, to ensure adequate security of lives and property.’’
