Anniversary

FORMER Minister of the Niger Delta, Dr Sam Ode, has expressed optimism that Nigeria would overcome the challenges of nation building currently confronting her.

Ode stated this in a goodwill message on the occasion of the 60th Independence Anniversary, issued to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), on Wednesday in Makurdi.

He said with the current stride of the incumbent administration and its resilience in tackling development challenges, there was hope for a better nation.

The ex minister noted that Nigerians had only one country and urged them to work hard and support the government to surmount its challenges.

Ode said: “The journey to our nationhood may have been tortuous but we have good cause to celebrate our union at 60th, because we as a people have been resilient, and therefore, overcome the problems associated with nation building.

“As we reflect on the past, let us galvanise our hopes and look into the future with even a greater sense of patriotism.

“Nigeria is our country to preserve as we have no other nation. We salute the patriots who paid the supreme sacrifice for our independence.”
