…backs call for more funding of science, technology

By Ajiri-Oghene Oreh

DEPUTY Chairman, House of Representative Committee on Science and Technology, Hon. Jonathan Ukodhiko has enjoined Nigerians not to be in despair but be optimistic that the country will be the pride of Africa, more united and prosperous.

Ukodhiko, who represents Isoko North and South Federal Constituency at the National Assembly made the call on Sunday in a statement marking the 63rd Independence anniversary of the century.

The PDP federal lawmaker extolled Nigerians for their resilience and commitment to nation building, stating that “things will be turned around to uplift the country and her people.”

He said: “This is an auspicious time for us to redesign a new roadmap for the economic recovery and development of Nigeria as we celebrate her 63rd anniversary as an independent nation.

“As we know, every nation globally is propelled by visions, by individual or a collective. And We must chart a progressive vision for our nation.”

The Isoko federal lawmaker stated that, “we can’t sincerely talk of the economic recovery of Nigeria without science and technology which is a major enabler of economic growth and key to the improvement of lives.

“As a country desirous of making giant development strides, then innovation must be encouraged. We must promote research in science and technology which will help us harness the nation’s enormous potentials for development and prosperity for the people.

“Sincere attention should be given to education, innovation, science and technology, I believe, when the sectors are more and well funded, Nigeria will experience greater heights and be a technologically advanced nation.”

Ukodhiko wrote, “On behalf of my family, I heartily congratulate the good people of Isoko North/South Federal Constituency, Delta State and Nigeria on the occasion of the 63rd independence anniversary of our beloved country.

“I must commend all Nigerians for their peerless contributions to nation building. I salute our resilience, sacrifices, commitment, courage, and for our zeal to the strengthening of our diversity, cultures and religions. We are a great people.

“We are all one as brothers and sisters in our nation. We should always allow the things that unite us as a people to erase our differences and let us collectively strive to consolidate our democracy.

“As a people, let us remain optimistic of a New Nigeria of our dream that shall be the leader and pride of Africa and Black people all over the world. Yes, that Nigeria is possible. We can do it.

“To me dear Isoko constituents, be assured, I’ll be your voice always, and I will bring you all the benefits of quality representation and greater dividends of democracy as your representatives at the Federal House of Representative.” Ukodhiko added.
