Independence: Respect, pray for leaders to succeed – Commissioner begs Nigerians
Politics
ANN Itodo, Benue Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, has appealed to Nigerians to stop insulting their leaders but respect and pray for them to succeed.
Itodo, who made the appeal in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Makurdi, said that addressing Nigeria’s current economic challenges requires patience, prayers, and support for leaders.
The commissioner said that continuous insults and curses on Nigerian leaders had become some people’s favourite pastime.
Itodo disclosed that the present economic situation of the country was not caused by the present leaders but past ones, whom she said had damaged the economy.
“Our president and governor are trying to lay a new foundation for the country and the state from scratch because the past leaders have damaged whatever was in place.
“We know that building a house from the foundation is not easy, so they really need our support and patience to put the country together again,” Itodo said.
The commissioner stated that there were many reasons to celebrate Nigeria’s 64th independence.
She pointed out that the president was committed to the welfare of Nigerians, as there were many federal government intervention programmes targeted at cushioning the sufferings of the people.
She urged Nigerians to key into interventions such as student loan schemes, consumer credit corporations, housing initiatives, and many more to better their living conditions.
Itodo also enumerated the achievements of Gov. Hyacinth Alia, such as infrastructural developments, prompt payment of salaries and pensions, as well as human capital development.
She wished Nigerians a happy 64th independence celebration.(NAN)
