INDEPENDENT National Electoral Commission, INEC, Anaocha Local Government Area, LGA, organised stakeholders’ election forum on Continuous Voter’s Registration and Permanent Voter Card distribution.
The event was held at the Council Hall of the LGA, Headquarter, Neni.
The event attracted presidents-general of the 10 communities that make up the council area, politicians, councillors and women leaders.
Earlier, Dennis Nwabor, electoral officer, Anaocha LGA, noted that Continuous Voter Registration, CVR, and permanent voters card collection, which commenced throughout the state on February was now in the third quarter and would end on August 17.
Nwabor said that the registration which was ongoing at INEC office, Neni, would be rotated at designated centres in the ward.
He emphasised that the aim of engaging wide range of agencies, traditional rulers, members of political parties was to enlighten the people on the need to avail themselves of the current CVR exercise and get registered.
The INEC officer also stressed that those to be registered would be those within 18 years and above, who had yet to register.
He observed that those with defaced or lost cards could be replaced through filling of forms at designated INEC offices in the state.
Those seeking interstate and intercity transfers would have to put up physical appearance also at the INEC office of their preferred voting location.
He urged stakeholders to promote partnership on voter education and pool resources together to optimise effectiveness of voter education campaigns.
The INEC officer enjoined the people to check all INEC offices in their areas for collection of their permanent voters’ cards, so as not to be disenfranchised during the upcoming 2019 General Election.
Ikeobi Ejiofor, Transitional Committee Chairman, Anaocha LGA, who highlighted the importance of voter education, said that South East geopolitical zone had the least number of registered voters.
Ejiofor urged all the communities and youth leaders in the LG to mobilise people to come out to register.
The council boss also enjoined INEC to map out timetable on how they would visit communities as this was the final lap of the exercise so that nobody would be disenfranchised.
