INEC insists general election will hold as scheduled
Politics
“THE 2023 General Election will hold as scheduled. Any report to the contrary is not the official position of the Commission,” Prof Mahmood Yakubu, INEC chairman, said in Abuja on Wednesday.
Yakubu stated this while presenting the 2023 final Register of Voters to political party leaders.
The chairman’s statement came on the heels of media reports, which had erroneously indicated that security concerns could lead to the postponement or cancellation of the polls.
Prof Yakubu said the compilation of the Register was “further affirmation of the commission’s readiness” coupled with “repeated assurances by security agencies.” The 2023 final Register has 93.46m voters – 52.5% males and 47.5% females – up from 84m voters in 2019.
